Description

King Kong (RKO, 1933). Fine/Very Fine. Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Featuring groundbreaking stop motion animation by Willis O'Brien, King Kong thrilled depression-era audiences with its depiction of the titular giant ape and the prehistoric inhabitants of Skull Island. The film pioneered the integration of special effects with live action footage, and was one of the first movies to take full advantage of sound technology with an innovative score composed specifically for the production and played over the top of the action, rather than from an on-screen source. Kong replicated the success of Universal's horror films of a few years before, and became RKO's highest grossing picture of all time. Material on the film remains hotly sought-after, and this impressive title lobby card is no exception. There is airbrushing applied to the borders for pinholes, paper lifts on the verso, and some staining on the verso of the left border. It also has painted writing on the verso that does not show through.
