    Description

King Kong in Girl Scout Cookie Time (Quaker Oats, 1972). Advertising Poster (15" X 20") Saul Bass Artwork.
Most probably would not immediately associate the wholesome Girl Scouts of America with artist Saul Bass, creator of such famous thriller movie posters as Vertigo, Anatomy of a Murder, and The Shining. Nevertheless, it was Bass that the organization chose to redesign their logo in the 1970s, resulting in the familiar symbol still seen today emblazoned on vests and cookie packages. In addition, he took a break from his usual form for this delightful 1972 poster, featuring poor little King Kong attempting to defend his delicious shortbread cookie prize from a swarm of pesky airplanes. Perhaps his first job in the movie industry, working at RKO in the 1940s and '50s, influenced his choice of the simian mascot. This whimsical illustration may not have many remaining posters after all these years, but it can still be found within the pages of the IDEA Saul Bass And Associates Extra Japanese Monograph from 1979. A Heritage first, and an absolute necessity for anyone who considers themselves to be a true Saul Bass collector! This unrestored poster still displays wonderfully, showing only light edge wear, mild horizontal creasing, and unobtrusive stains. Fine/Very Fine.
