Description
Jaws (Universal, 1975). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. International Seven Sheet (83" X 93.25") Roger Kastel Artwork. The seven sheet movie poster is a format that remains unfamiliar to many collectors. Used only sporadically from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, these posters are slightly larger than the more commonly encountered six sheets. Like many of their six sheet counterparts, they were printed in two overlapping panels, with the term "seven sheet" referring to their size rather than their method of production. So rare are these posters that Heritage Auctions has offered only a few examples in its history, representing just six titles: Phantom of the Paradise, Bonnie and Clyde, Soylent Green, Easy Rider, On Any Sunday, and Jaws. For collectors in pursuit of the rarest large-format pieces, the seven sheet represents a truly exceptional prize. Among them, Roger Kastel's artwork for Spielberg's Jaws stands out as one of the most iconic images in cinema. Its power is magnified by the scale of the seven sheet format, making an already arresting image even more remarkable. While the domestic version features a left-aligned release date (June 20) and the shark to the right, this international style, undated for global use, places the shark front and center, resulting in a bolder, more visually striking composition. Much of the borders and white background have been airbrushed to address edge and fold wear, pinholes, creases, misfolds, several tears, tape stain/tape stain bleedthrough, and chips/chipping further corrected by replacement. Additionally, touchup to the folds throughout has corrected many of those same issues. Scuffs and some restoration remain visible.
