    Description

Isle of the Dead (RKO, 1945). One Sheet (27" X 41"). A group of refugees from the Balkan wars of 1912 are quarantined on a Greek island because of the plague. They are led by General Pherides (Boris Karloff), a cruel martinet who is prone to superstitious beliefs. As the plague takes more victims, a peasant woman (Helene Thimig) begins to suspect that nurse Thea (Ellen Drew) is a vorvolaka -- a vampire! This one sheet has light wrinkling in one corner and a crease along one fold line, small cross fold separations and a small hole in the image area. Hauntingly scary images of Karloff and Drew dominate the poster. Val Lewton's horror films for RKO all bore his mark of intense suspense and understated horror. The posters for his series of films are coveted by horror aficionados! Very Fine+.
