Description
Dracula (Universal, 1931). Very Fine+. Glass Slide (3.25" X 4") Style A.Directed by Tod Browning and starring Bela Lugosi, this film helped launch Universal's legendary monster franchise. Adapted from Bram Stoker's novel and the 1924 stage play, the film follows Count Dracula as he travels from Transylvania to England, feeding on the blood of the living and turning victims into undead thralls. With a budget of $350,000.00, the film went on to garner more than $1,000,000.00 at the box office. Bela Lugosi, who portrayed Count Dracula in 261 performances on Broadway, actively campaigned for the role in the film adaptation. He was ultimately cast and paid just $500.00 per week over the course of the seven-week shoot. His performance would go on to define the character for generations, remaining the quintessential Dracula until Christopher Lee took on the role in Hammer's film series, appearing as the Count ten times. Dracula remains a landmark in horror cinema to this day. This rare slide is in wonderful condition, only exhibiting rust to the staples and small stains to the holder.
