Description
Dracula (Universal, 1931). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").A young Carl Laemmle Jr., son of the founder of Universal Studios, saw box office potential in an 1897 Victorian novel by Irish author Bram Stoker, about a vampire trying to relocate from Transylvania to England. The novel had made a very successful transition to the stage and was a huge hit on Broadway by the 1920s. Against his father's wishes, Laemmle Jr. struck a deal with the author's widow and the stage was set for the beginning of one of the most famous monster films ever made. Universal would produce this first sound horror film starring a little known Hungarian actor, Bela Lugosi, fresh from his success on the stage as the title character, Dracula. This beautiful card is only the second time Heritage has offered a title card to this famous film. This wonderful and vibrant copy has had no restoration and exhibits three pinholes, one in each upper corner within the border and one in the lower border left side. There is a tiny surface stain barely noticeable on the tip of Lugosi's nose and a very small stain on the verso but not visible on the front. There is a rubber stamp of a previous owner also on the verso. This is a beautiful card and would be a cornerstone to the most discriminating collector. From the Collection of Ron Moore. Very Fine.
