    Description

    Dracula's Daughter (Universal, 1936). One Sheet (27" X 41").
This elusive one sheet's greatness lies in its spareness: only the neon green and yellow eyes of the title character project through the ominously onyx background, as the title "drips" in the same garish colors just below. That's Countess Marya Zaleska, Daughter of Dracula, played to the hilt by Gloria Holden in a spectacular sequel to Universal's sensational hit Dracula (1931). Paper from this early horror classic is difficult to find, including this format that's making its Heritage debut. James Whale, after the huge success of both Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935), was asked to write the screenplay and direct, but his proposed treatment was considered too extravagant, and he was dropped from the picture, replaced by Lambert Hillyer. The story picks up after the death of Dracula, with Professor Von Helsing (Edward Van Sloan) attempting to prove that he did not commit murder, as the vampire was already technically dead for hundreds of years. He seeks the aid of a psychiatrist, played by Otto Kruger, who is also enlisted by Zaleska to overcome her murderous tendencies and insatiable thirst for blood. Holden is powerful in her starring performance and the chilling atmosphere of the film ranks this as one of Universal's top horror classics. Nearly impossible to find, this one sheet has been professionally restored and is display-ready. A long awaited treasure for Universal horror collectors! Touchup was applied to the folds, chips in the left border, tears in the bottom border, and pinholes in the corners. Very Fine- on Linen.
