Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Paramount, 1931). Fine+ on Paper. Insert (14" X 36").
Out of all of the numerous adaptations of this classic tale, Fredric March turned in the definitive portrayal of Robert Louis Stevenson's tortured scientist with his Oscar-winning performance. Part of March's extreme shift in character for the unfortunate doctor can be seen on this insert with its classy image of the ever-proper Dr. Jekyll, a characterization that made March's violent Mr. Hyde all the more jarring for audiences. Miriam Hopkins and Rose Hobart likewise turn in excellent performances to compliment the two sides of March's character, adding extra depth to Stevenson's already exceptional story. Never folded prior to being backed in paper, this very scarce insert has received professional corrections to pinholes, mild creases, and a couple of minor chips and tears in the borders. Also addressed were two tears into the interior from the right edge, one reaching into March's bow tie, the other extending through the small image of March and Hobart. A few of these issues are still somewhat visible, and the borders have been airbrushed. There is a slight bit of post-restoration edge wear on the right side, but the interior image remains a beautiful display piece any horror collector would be lucky to own. This poster will be shipped flat.
