Description

Creature from the Black Lagoon (Universal International, 1954). Fine/Very Fine. Insert (14" X 36") Reynold Brown Artwork.
Creature from the Black Lagoon stands as one of Universal's most iconic monster films, introducing the legendary Gill-man, a mysterious amphibious creature haunting the shadowy waters of the Amazon. Directed by Jack Arnold, the film follows a team of scientists who journey deep into the jungle in search of a rumored humanoid fish, only to encounter a being far more dangerous, and emotionally complex, than they imagined. The Gill-man, captivated by the beautiful scientist played by Julie Adams, ultimately kidnaps her and takes her to his cavernous lair, adding a haunting layer of primal longing to the suspense. As the only Universal monster born of the 1950s, the Creature earned his place alongside Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Mummy, ushering in a second golden age of horror for the studio. A perennial favorite, the striking insert from this release captures the film's chilling allure, famously describing the Gill-man as having "centuries of passion pent up in his savage heart." Airbrushing to a few areas along the borders/at the corners has corrected tape stain, while touchup has addressed some of additional tape stain at the far edges of the interior. There are a few other imperfections untouched by restoration, including light edge wear, slight creases, some smudges/scuffs, minor paper lifts, small colored pencil markings at the bottom right corner, and a few light stains and moderate tears along the borders.
