Boris Karloff in The Mummy (Universal, 1932). Very Fine. Linen-backed Behind-the-Scenes Keybook Photo (9.75" X 7.5").
A vintage silver gelatin, single weight, glossy finish, linen-backed keybook photo of the great Boris Karloff in a rare behind-the-scenes shot in his iconic role as Kharis the Mummy. Make-up master Jack Pierce, known for working on both of Universal's early werewolf pictures, can be seen on the left side applying some of Karloff's numerous bandages necessary for the character. It was a tedious and uncomfortable process, often taking multiple hours to both complete and get out of the costume, as noted in the typed studio information on the verso of this photo. Offered for the first time at Heritage, signs of handling include minor surface blemishes, light creases, and faint surface scuffs. There are unobtrusive smudges, as well as a very small tear. The edge used for binding the photo to the keybook has been removed and there is a slight trim to some of the borders, as was typical for studio usage.
