Black Sunday by Giuliano Nistri (American International, c.1996). Very Fine. Signed Italian Mixed Media Recreation Artwork (11" X 15.25").
Making its first appearance at Heritage, this preliminary illustration by Giuliano Nistri is a perfect image to pair with director Mario Bava's eerie tale of a vengeful witch. The addition of a bloody handprint, most likely from Nistri's actual hand, is a fantastic addition to Barbara Steele's beautiful yet terrified visage. This is a recreation of the illustration printed on the country of origin posters for the film. Already unique, unlike any other item, the piece has been signed by Nistri both in the bottom border and on the verso in ink. The paper has been well preserved, showing slight edge wear, light creases, and corner bumps. Also visible are pinholes, unobtrusive smudges, some surface rippling, and paper lifts over inked writing in the bottom border and on the verso, although these issues are thought to have occurred during the creation process and have no affect on either the image or the grade.
