Description

Home on the Range (MGM, 1940). One Sheet (27" X 41").
All through the 1930s, MGM and other major studios struggled against the cartoon juggernaut that was Walt Disney studios, which had taken home the Short Animation Oscars every year from 1932 to 1939. It was during this time that MGM hired, fired, and re-hired the famous duo Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising to head up their animation department. The two worked on series with characters like Barney Bear, as well as several one-shot cartoons like this musical short. They would eventually hit paydirt in 1940 with Ising's The Milky Way, the first short animation to wrest the Academy Award from Disney's clutches. Retaining its bright color, this first-time offer from Heritage has fold and edge wear, small tears, pinholes in the borders and interior, and minor chips. Touchup has been applied to some of these issues, as well as to vertical creases from the upper border into the image area. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.

    Estimate: $600 - $1,200.
