Description

Hold That Ghost (Universal, 1941). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
A pair of daft service station employees (Bud Abbott and Lou Costello) unwittingly inherit a haunted estate from gangster Moose Mattson. A perfect set-up for the comedy duo, they are joined by a couple of crooked lawyers, and stranded bus passengers -- Evelyn Ankers, Richard Carlson, and a professional screamer played by Joan Davis (a must for any haunted house tale). This is one of Abbott and Costello's best films, with the iconic scene of the "moving candle" that scares Costello to the point where he cannot speak, and guest appearances by the Andrew Sisters. A complete set and a must-have for all fans of the comedy pair. The title card shows smudging, and pinholes and tears with tape on the verso. The "candle" card has been linen-backed and light touchup has been applied to a bottom left corner tear, and hole and tear in the coat of Joan Davis, and an upper left corner ding. The remaining cards show pinholes in the image area and borders, small tears in the top and bottom border, surface paper loss at the bottom left, and smudging. Fine.
