    Description

    Vertigo (Paramount, 1958). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Much has been made of the deceptively intricate styling of the work of poster artist Saul Bass for one of Hitchcock's best. The genius begins with the selection of the "nervous font" Bass uses in the top credits, simply calling the film "Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece." But the cleverest part of the poster is the uneven plane the central characters find themselves swept into as they spiral into a vortex that spreads across 3/5ths of the poster. The man in black is harming/helping, depending on your mood. The woman is in a police-styled drawn outline, with a pool of blood between them. So engaging is the design one noted director said that, for him, the film began when he first saw the poster. There are pinholes in the top corners and top center border and background. The centerfolds have pinpoint separations and there is a small tear in the upper vertical fold. The top left corner has a small crease, and there is soft extra vertical creasing. This is one of the sharpest, unrestored copies of this poster we have ever offered! Very Fine.
