    Description

    To Catch a Thief (Paramount, 1955). Poster (40" X 60") Style Y.
Retired jewel thief John Robie (Cary Grant) leaves his larcenous ways behind him to lead a life of leisure on the French Riviera. That is, until an up-and-coming burglar begins a new crime wave, mimicking Robie's signature style. With the finger of suspicion pointing to him, Robie is forced to get back into action to find the thief and clear his name. One of director Alfred Hitchcock's other favorite actors, Grace Kelly, is cast as wealthy heiress Frances Stevens, who aids Robie in his mission. This was the picture that lured Grant out of the retirement he had announced just two years earlier, and one of Kelly's final films before she departed Hollywood to embark on her own French Riviera adventure, as the real- life Princess of Monaco. This sumptuous 40" X 60" poster is the perfect representation of the film that won an Oscar for Best Color Cinematography--filled with rich color and imagery. It's a rare piece, and this example has been backed with masa paper, with beautiful restoration addressing minor wear including pinholes in the corners, a tear in the bottom and top that extends into the background, and one in the credits, and some wrinkling. There is a reissue stamp in the top and bottom border, but this poster is definitively from the original release. An outstanding find for Hitchcock aficionados! Rolled, Very Fine-.

    Estimate: $3,000 - $6,000.
