    Description

    To Catch a Thief (Paramount, 1955). Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style A.
The sun-dappled, azure waters of the French Riviera provide a spectacular backdrop for this mistakenly under-celebrated Alfred Hitchcock film that won an Academy Award for cinematographer Robert Burks. As elite vacationers bask in the glitz and tranquility of a posh seaside resort town, a crime wave ensues that points directly to retired cat burglar Cary Grant. He claims innocence, and vows to unmask the true criminal mimicking his style. In order to succeed, he must keep tabs on the wealthiest of the holidayers, including the decadently bejeweled and sufficiently snarly Jessie Royce Landis. Delightfully, her pleasant daughter is played by Grace Kelly, who can't help but fall for Grant. Fireworks erupt (literally) between the two, and as this ever-popular half sheet attests, they make quite a lovely pair. Romance and danger go hand and hand here, with a dizzying, nighttime rooftop angle punctuated by floodlights and the French gendarmerie in hot pursuit. The poster was previously folded, but has been pressed and backed with masa paper. Signs of handling prior to restoration included pinholes in the borders and image area, fold wear, and a tear in the right border. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
