Description

Rope (Warner Bros., 1948). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41").
Rope marked the first collaboration between two cinematic legends: director Alfred Hitchcock and actor James Stewart. This psychological thriller centers around a "thrill murder," where two young men commit a murder purely for the excitement of it and attempt to host a dinner party with the body hidden in the room. Always fascinated by cinematic experimentation, Hitchcock took on the challenge of making the entire film appear as if it unfolds in real time, using long, continuous shots set within a single location-a daring technique at the time. The film's poster is particularly striking, featuring a vibrant and eye-catching image of Stewart. This example has tears in Stewart's name as well as along the center horizontal fold, as well as light touchup. Property from a Distinguished Collection.
