    Rebecca (United Artists, 1940). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
After Alfred Hitchcock had made a name for himself directing films in England, he made his American debut with this atmospheric mystery that would take an Oscar for Best Picture. Based on Daphne du Maurier's riveting novel, it tells the story of Mrs. De Winter and how she copes with the haunting presence of the now deceased Rebecca de Winter, her husband's first wife. Judith Anderson, as the cold and controlling housekeeper Mrs. Danvers, would create one of the most menacing characters to ever electrify the screen. This half sheet is one of the rarest formats on this title and has only been auctioned by Heritage once before. It captures Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine as they fear the looming presence of Rebecca over the estate of Manderley. There were tape stains on the edges of the left six inches and the right five inches of the horizontal fold. There was also some fold wear to the other areas of fold lines. There was a small chip out of the left border and the center of both the top and lower edge at the vertical fold. These issues have been addressed by airbrushing the borders and with professional restoration so that the poster displays beautifully. Fine- on Paper.
