Description

Psycho (Paramount, 1960). Very Fine+ on Linen. British Quad (30" X 40") Style B.
All the stars aligned properly for this suspenseful production, from the taut direction by Alfred Hitchcock, to a memorable and evocative score by Bernard Hermann, to the film's truly exceptional cast. Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins lead the way with their riveting performances, with Perkins creating one of the most terrifying monsters in the history of film, the tortured Norman Bates. Not surprisingly, paper from this picture is highly prized by collectors, with this humorous U.K. quad being of particular interest. In an excellent example of smart showmanship, Hitchcock himself reminds moviegoers that any entry into the theatre after the start time is expressly forbidden, and that errant patrons will be removed by any means necessary. This is our first opportunity to offer this exceptional British quad, which is far rarer than either the Janet Leigh version, or the local silkscreen "playdate" version offered here before. Undoubtedly one of the best advertisements from any country ever made for the picture's original release. Before backing, this remarkable example exhibited only a trace of fold wear and corner pinholes which has been addressed with gentle retouching. Property from a Distinguished Collection.
