    Description

    Psycho (Paramount, 1960). Poster (40" X 60").
It would become one of the greatest horror films ever made, and the studio knew they had something special on their hands when they released the film. They put this special 40" X 60" into production to warn audiences not to miss the movie's beginning, as it would affect the viewer's experience for the rest of the film. The movie's taut direction under Alfred Hitchcock, with a memorable and evocative score by Bernard Hermann, would lead Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins into creating one of the most terrifying scenes in the history of film (the shower scene), and Perkins would create his most memorable role as the tortured Norman Bates. Not surprisingly, paper from this picture is highly prized by collectors, with this humorous 40" X 60" being of particular interest. In an excellent example of smart showmanship, Hitchcock himself reminds moviegoers that any entry into the theatre after the start time is expressly forbidden, and that errant patrons will be removed by any means necessary. By this point in his career, Hitchcock was so well recognized, that his is the only image on this poster. Undoubtedly one of the best American advertisements ever made for the picture's original release, Professional restoration has addressed edge wear with small tears, minor chips in the borders, and some horizontal creasing. There was a large vertical tear from the bottom border into the lower text. The borders have been airbrushed. Fine+ on Linen.
