Description
Notorious (RKO, 1946). Very Fine+ on Linen. Six Sheet (79.25" X 80.75").This marks the first time Heritage has had the privilege of offering this remarkably scarce six sheet poster for director Alfred Hitchcock's spy noir masterpiece, Notorious. Though similar in design to the one sheet, with the bow of the pivotal wine cellar key framing a romantic portrait of leads Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, the quality of the portrait itself far exceeds that of the one sheet, boasting superior clarity and color to the slightly murky image on the smaller format poster. Also notable is the fidelity in alignment of the text and image elements across the various panels, a characteristic often lacking in large multi-panel posters. To this day, Notorious remains one of Hitchcock's best loved films for its taut suspense sequences, the cellar key scene referenced on the poster being one of the most heart-stopping sequences ever committed to celluloid, and emotionally complex romantic plot. Backed on linen, the poster received minor touchup to the folds, some light scuffs and solitary pinholes. Arguably the best US release poster for the monumental film, this exceedingly rare piece presents beautifully.
