Description

Jamaica Inn (Paramount, 1939). French Grande (47" X 63").
This rare poster is from Alfred Hitchcock's last British film before departing for America. Based upon Daphne du Maurier's first best selling novel set in the 19th century, the picture follows Maureen O'Hara as a young woman who moves in with her aunt and uncle, who run the decrepit "Jamaica Inn." She soon discovers that the shady characters frequenting this inn are part of a pirating operation. Charles Laughton was the star of the film as Sir Humphrey Pengallan, the villainous squire who leads a pack of smugglers falsely luring boats into the area. The boats would crash on the rocks, killing the passengers and allowing the smugglers to loot the cargo. Heritage has sold very little paper from this film, including the French Grande, which is presented here for the first time. Now in admirable display condition, the poster has had touchup to pinholes in the background, tears in the bottom and right borders and right background,
and chips in the left and right border. Beautiful artwork by E. Florit. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
