Description

The King of Kings (Pathé, 1927). Three Sheet (41" X 81").
Cecil B. DeMille's epic tale of the life of Jesus Christ had an auspicious premiere on May 18, 1927 at the grand opening of the famed Grauman's Chinese Theater. H. B. Warner stars as Jesus, with Dorothy Cumming, Ernest Torrence, and James Neill rounding out the cast. Intelligently told, the film has many deeply moving moments such as the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus's healing of the lame, and the Crucifixion. The spectacular ending sequence of the Resurrection was filmed in Technicolor. This beautiful stone litho three sheet is a Heritage first, and it features Joseph Schildkraut as the noose-wielding Judas Iscariot, and Jacqueline Logan as Mary Magdalene. The poster is in three sections, as was typical for three sheets printed at this time, and was found at a poster exchange in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1980s. For its age and size, the three sheet is a bit delicate, but in remarkable condition. There are tiny edge nicks, small stains in the top border of each piece, and cross fold separations with tissue tape on the verso. Folded, Very Fine-.
