Hearts and Saddles (Fox, 1917). Three Sheet (41" X 82").
Tom Mix was one of the most famous personalities of the first half of the twentieth century. He was a cowboy who rode in Wild West shows around the turn of the century and was contracted by Selig Pictures to provide them with cowboys and Indians around 1910, and was subsequently asked to work in front of the cameras. He continued making short films with Selig until 1917, writing and directing as well as acting. He was signed by Fox Films in 1917, and stayed with them until 1928, averaging five or so films a year and becoming of of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. This two-reeler was the first short released for William Fox and starring his newest acting talent, but sadly it's one of many films that is no longer extant. Fortunately, for fans of the cowboy legend this impressive three sheet poster from the film has survived. In beautiful stone litho colors, Mix is seen vying for the affections of Victoria Forde, but potentially being usurped by another suitor! The poster is in four sections and signs of handling include crossfold separations, a stain in the right border, an extra horizontal crease, and a dust shadow along the left border. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
