DescriptionHallelujah! (MGM, 1929). Swedish One Sheet (27.5" X 39.5").
MGM considered this 1929, all-black picture such an immense risk that it asked director King Vidor to forego his salary. One of the first of its kind by a major studio, Hallelujah! follows Daniel L. Haynes and his complex relationship with the seductive, troubled, dance hall girl Nina Mae McKinney. Vidor's determination to depict a non-stereotypical view of African-American life earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. The expected controversy surrounded the initial release of the film, and the picture had its share of early talkie technical difficulties, masterfully overcome by Vidor. Heritage is proud to present for the first time this incredible Swedish one sheet, printed in brilliant stone litho colors sure to catch the eye. The poster's condition is as good as its image, showing only minor issues like slight edge wear, light corner bumps, and a couple of minor tears. Folded, Very Fine+.
Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
