DescriptionHallelujah, I'm a Bum (United Artists, 1933). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Al Jolson was one of the biggest stars in the world at the time of this picture's release, just six years after the great success of The Jazz Singer. However, this Rodgers and Hart musical, with its experimental rhyming couplets dialogue, was not the hit with audiences everyone expected. Jolson's wife, Ruby Keeler, had been offered the Madge Evans role, but turned it down--she didn't want her first film to be with her husband. Instead, she did 42nd Street, which was a huge smash. In 1939, Hallelujah was the very first film shown on the fledgling television medium, on W2XBS in New York City. Appearing for the first time at Heritage, this colorful stone litho one sheet shows light edge war, slight fold wear and separations, a few unobtrusive smudges, and pinholes in the top corners. There is a small chip in the upper crossfold, but this does not affect the poster's artwork. Folded, Very Fine-.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
