Description

Gold of the Desert (Diamond Dot, 1923). Trimmed One Sheet (27" X 41.75").
Using footage from Henry King's 1917 picture The Mainspring, the film Gold of the Desert rearranged the scenes from its source material and added new intertitles to tell a different story in the same genre and setting. The two films star actor/director Henry King in the leading role, supported by Ethel Pepperell, Robert Ensminger, and Cullen Landis, later known as the star of the first all-talking picture, Lights of New York. Offered for the first time by Heritage, this stock one sheet comes in two panels featuring a fantastic stone litho image up top and a text sheet at the bottom. Partial restoration has applied touchup to the borders and folds for chips and tears, addressed several tears in the upper section with one from the upper right border into the background, a 7" tear from Henry King's leg to his belt, a 13" tear from where the two panels join into Ethel Pepperell's image, and a tear from the upper right background though Henry King to his hand. The poster still shows staining in the left border, border smudges, creasing in the lower part of the image panel with minor bubbling, a small chip in the bottom left corner, a dust shadow in the lower border, and the vertical borders have a slight trim. There is some cracking in the image area touchup, the image panel is beginning to separate from the masa paper, and the linen has been trimmed to the borders, but not into the poster itself. Fine on Linen.
