Godzilla by Enzo Nistri (Paramount, 1957). Very Fine+. Signed Original Gouache Concept Artwork (12.5" X 18").
Enzo Nistri, one of the best Italian poster artists from the 1950s to the 1970s, takes on Japan's most famous daikaiju in this fantastic gouache painting. As an illustrator of exceptional talent, Nistri's artwork can be found on dozens of Italian posters, particularly Breakfast at Tiffany's and Hitchcock films like Vertigo, North by Northwest, Notorious, and Rope. A concept piece for the finalized Italian 4 fogli, Nistri transplants the king of all sci-fi monsters to more domestic settings, showing the skyline of Rome engulfed in flames while Godzilla rains destruction upon the city. Little did anyone know that IshirĊ Honda's gargantuan reptile would launch the longest-running film franchise in history, the original allegory of atomic warfare spawning a slew of monsters over the course of decades. A one of a kind piece making its Heritage debut, this signed painting has some roughness to the edges due to the artistic process, and there is a vellum cover attached with adhesive on the verso. Very Fine+.

    Estimate: $4,500 - $9,000.
