    Description

Gentleman Jim (Warner Brothers, 1948). First Post-War Release Italian 2 - Fogli (39" X 55") Luigi Martinati Artwork.
Jim Corbett introduced scientific methods to bare-knuckle boxing, portrayed here by Errol Flynn as the famous office clerk-turned-boxer. Corbett gathers enemies with his boastful style, including a high-society young woman (Alexis Smith), who eventually warms to him. "Gentleman" Jim wants to challenge reigning heavyweight champ John L. Sullivan (Ward Bond), and they finally meet in a bout governed by the new Marquis of Queensbury rules popularized by Corbett. The fight went 21 rounds, and Flynn displayed toughness equal to his character. He did all of his own stunts in the film, even after he suffered a mild heart attack, never once using a double. A first time offer at Heritage, this Italian poster has fantastic Luigi Martinati artwork, showing edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, small tears, and pinholes into the interior. There is some unobtrusive smudging, a bit of writing bleedthrough by Flynn's mouth, and a tear in his eye. The tears and some of the fold separations have been repaired with paper tape on the verso. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.

    Estimate: $600 - $1,200.
