DescriptionFrankenstein (Universal, R-1947). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Universal's 1931 production of Frankenstein made a star of actor Boris Karloff and firmly established the studio in the Golden Age of Horror, initiated earlier that year with Bela Lugosi's performance in Dracula. Paper from this landmark film is incredibly scarce, consistently bringing record prices when it does appear. Many collectors see re-release paper, such as this rare full-color one sheet, as an attractive alternative to the original paper, as it represents a chance to own something from an important film at a more approachable price. Well conserved and retaining its brilliant hues, this poster once had fold and edge wear, with chips and tears extending into the image area, including in Karloff's face. There has been additional touchup to the bottom of the title, airbrushing in the borders, and restoration to a sliver of paper loss along the right edge. Fine+ on Linen.
Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000.
