Vers l'abîme (UFA, 1934). French Double Grande (63" X 92.25") Boris Grinsson Artwork.
Released in the early days of Germany's Third Reich, this espionage drama had double release in Germany and France featuring two different casts, with Brigitte Helm of Metropolis fame starring in both versions. Based off of Harald Bratt's successful play Die Insel, this French adaptation has Raymond Rouleau playing a doomed young military officer trapped into a blackmailing scheme, entangling the military and jeopardizing the honor of a foreign ambassador. Hans Steinhoff directed both versions, with actress Françoise Rosay also making an appearance in a supporting role for both films. Artist Boris Grinsson provides a thrilling look at the picture's highlights in stone litho printing, dominated by an excellent portrait of the beautiful Brigitte Helm. The poster has received touchup to the folds, pinholes, and small border chips. There is some still visible foxing in the left border and a tape stain in the upper right corner, but none of this affects the exciting artwork. Very Fine- on Linen.
