Description

The Seven Samurai (Toho, 1954). Very Fine+ on Linen. Japanese B2 (20" X 28.5").
The year 1954 was a turning point for the venerable Toho studios in Japan. They gambled, and gambled big. They poured money into two films, an epic film about Gojira...possibly a combination of the characters for "gorilla" and a "whale" (known in the U.S. as Godzilla), and this landmark Kurosawa-directed film about an unemployed Samurai warrior. If these films had not performed, and well, the studio would surely have closed. The rest, as they say, is history. Country-of-origin posters have always been actively sought by ardent collectors for these titles. The poster for this most beloved and critically acclaimed Akira Kurosawa film is one of the most difficult to find of any of his works. It's a terrific image of the brilliant Toshiro Mifune in full warrior stance, with side images from the film. Professional touchup has corrected slight fold wear, pinholes, and very minor tears. Awarded the highest possible grade for linen-backed posters, this is an opportunity collectors will not want to miss!
