Description
The Seven Samurai (CWF, 1961). Very Fine+ on Linen. First Release Full-Bleed Polish Poster (33.5" X 23"). Marian Stachurski Artwork.Poster artist Marian Stachurski combines his signature bold style with a Japanese flair on this original Polish poster, the first Heritage has had the pleasure to offer. Akira Kurosawa's epic masterpiece is set in 16th century Japan and stars the incomparable Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura, who each appeared in dozens of the director's successful pictures. When a small village is attacked by bandits, residents hire seven wandering samurai warriors. The film is incredibly well structured, with the first half focusing on the villagers relationship with the samurai and the building tension of the preparations for battle and the latter half devoted to the actual fighting. Ultimately a bittersweet tale of the price of war and the loss of noble warriors, this is one of the most influential films in cinema history and is Japan's highest grossing movie to date. In pristine condition, other than some very minor edge wear at the top, this poster shows no flaws and has needed no touchup. Very Fine+ on Linen.
