The Girl in the Bikini (Film Selezione, 1958). First Release Italian 8 Foglio (77" X 108") Rodolfo Gasparri Artwork. Original French Title: Manina.
Originally filmed in 1952 and released in France the same year, this low budget tale of treasure-hunting in the Mediterranean didn't see a wide release until 1958. The story itself was rather unremarkable and might never have seen a wide release without the "by chance" casting of a very young (18 years old) Brigitte Bardot. It was Bardot's second film, and the first one she would have a major role in. Four years later, and after appearing in many smaller roles, Bardot became a sensation as the temptress in And God Created Woman and suddenly the public couldn't get enough of the French sex kitten. Manina was reissued and became a major hit. In the USA it was released as The Girl in the Bikini as this seemed to be Bardot's only wardrobe. However, on this Italian poster she is curiously clad in a one-piece swimsuit. This very large format poster is from the film's first release in Italy and BB is featured in the same "look" as she appeared in And God Created Woman, reclining back on a rock and tempting patrons into the theatre to see more. Rodolfo Gasparri captured the actress in one of the best images we've ever seen of her and fans of Bardot won't want to miss this one. The poster shows mild edge and fold wear with small chips, slight fold separations, pinholes, small tears, and unobtrusive smudges. The upper left corner of the image has several tax stamps, half of which have been roughly removed, causing some paper loss. Folded, Very Fine-.
