    Description

Rome, Open City (Minerva, 1945). Italian Foglio (27.75" X 38.5").
Rome had been declared an open city by the German Army after the major Allied offensives of early 1944, so no resistance was encountered for the Allied Forces and thus the title of this groundbreaking and historic film. Yet the film deals with the brutal Nazi occupation and the heroic Italian resistance. Shot almost immediately after the city was liberated while Germans still occupied the streets, Roberto Rossellini was forced to shoot in the streets and amidst the rubble and chaos of war. This film was the first great Italian Neo-realist film and began a movement that was recognized around the world and is studied to this day. This extremely rare and beautiful Italian first release poster is magnificent with its eerie portrait of Anna Magnani as the widow Pina. This poster is in beautiful shape with almost no signs of wear. Folded, Very Fine+.
