    Gate of Hell (Daiei, 1953). Fine/Very Fine. Japanese Hand-Tinted Photos (15) (9.5" X 11.75").
One of the first Japanese films to garner international acclaim, this drama tells the story of the jealous samurai Morito Endo (Kazuo Hasegawa) and the unwilling object of his affections, Lady Kesa Watanabe (Machiko Kyo). As Daiei's first picture filmed in full color, director Teinosuke Kinugasa took his stunning piece of cinematography abroad to gain the Palm d'Or (then called the Grand Prix) at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as an honorary Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Heritage is proud to present these rare vintage hand-tinted, double weight, matte finish country of origin Japanese photos for the first time. Signs of age include mild edge wear, slight creases, some curling, and pinholes. Other wear includes minor tears and chips, small paper lifts, thin surface scratches, as well as unobtrusive stains and smudges.
