    Description

A Nous la liberte (Filmssonor, R-1940s). French Grande (47" X 62.5") Roger Cartier Artwork.
Rene Clair's landmark film and crowning achievement, À Nous la liberté, is beautifully illustrated by this whimsical country-of-origin poster! Raymond Cordy and Henri Marchand are ex-convicts living different lives once outside of prison. Marchand's days are monotonous, as he oversees workers in a factory, while Cordy is a mere vagabond. When the two meet again, their lives change for the better. The first non-English film to be nominated for an Academy Award, Clair's satirical comedy is believed to have been the inspiration for Charles Chaplin's classic, Modern Times. There is red transfer from top to bottom, edge wear with tears, fold wear with some splits, and crossfold separation with tears. There are pieces of paper tape on the verso. Artist Roger Cartier provides the hopeful image of Cordy and Merchand gleefully venturing out toward a bright new world, away from the grim life of a factory drone. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
