    Description

The Postman Always Rings Twice (MGM, 1946). Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style A.
James M. Cain's shocking crimer told a gritty story of a drifter who starts work in a diner and soon begins an affair with the owner's wife. The dissatisfied hussy decides that her husband needs his ticket punched, and turns to the drifter to do the dirty work. Lana Turner, a platinum blonde bombshell, took on the role of the insatiable wife, and John Garfield was the man who drifted into her irresistible charms. Although the novel was written in 1934, MGM had to wait till 1946 before they were allowed to make such a dark film. This classic noir poster keeps to the theme with its blood red background, and has signs of use like edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, creasing, pinholes in the borders, and small border tears. There are some unobtrusive stains and smudges, a couple of surface scratches in the title area, and a pencil mark in James Garfield's neck and cheek. Also visible is a tear from the bottom border to the inset image that has been repaired with archival tape on the verso. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
