    Description

The Postman Always Rings Twice (MGM, 1946). Fine/Very Fine on Paper. Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style B.
There is a thin line between love and hate, and this superb film noir has Lana Turner and John Garfield dancing over that line so many times, audiences are kept guessing about their motives until the very end. James M. Cain's book was published in 1934 at the height of the Depression and depicted the desperation that a drifter and an unsatisfied wife of a restaurant owner will go to in order to achieve their own needs, even murder. The book was a natural for the silver screen and even though the Depression was over by the early 1940s, the Hays Commissions Code of Ethics was still in force and prohibited a lot of the novel's darker and erotic moments from being filmed. It was more than a decade before a studio was able to sufficiently tone down Cain's steamy best-seller and get it past the censors. A Heritage first, this rare style B version of the half sheet poster has touchup to the folds, creases, surface wear, and small tears. There was a minute chip in the top right corner, and the borders have been airbrushed. Some of the creases are unaddressed, as are a few unobtrusive smudges. Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
