Description

The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1946). Fine+ on Linen. First Post-War Release French Grande (47" X 63").
A striking image of Humphrey Bogart as private detective Sam Spade dominates this wonderful French poster, joined by the treacherous Peter Lorre and ever-alluring Mary Astor. Released in formerly Axis-controlled countries soon after the end of World War II, this was the first time French audiences could enjoy John Huston's film noir adaptation of the popular Dashiell Hammett detective novel. Posters for this film are some of the most sought after in the entire hobby, especially posters of such great graphics and scarcity as the one offered in this lot. It now looks wonderful after professional repairs to edge and fold wear, fold separations, enlarged pinholes, and some tears. There were chips at the borders and folds, including in Bogart's eye and Lorre's image, in addition to some paper loss in the lower left corner. The poster has airbrushing in the background, borders, and upper credits. Fine+ on Linen.
