Description
The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941). Window Card (14" X 22") From the Warner Media Archive.John Huston created the definitive version of Dashiell Hammett's novel with this, the third filmed version of the book. Humphrey Bogart took on the role of Sam Spade, the lecherous and cynical detective, with all the suave he could muster. He also re-created himself from a B list actor on the Warner lot to one of their top leading men with this performance. This story of a group of inept thugs chasing a mysterious treasure, a jewel encrusted Black Bird, and hiring the detective to help them in their quest, has become the stuff of legend in Hollywood as one of the most important films of the film noir genre. Most of the posters for the films campaign featured images of Bogart from his earlier hit High Sierra, as the snarling gangster Roy "Mad Dog" Earle. However, for the window card and the six sheet, those images were replaced with Bogart as Sam Spade, making these posters the most sought after on the title. Needless to say, these posters are almost impossible to find, which makes this offering almost as rare as the actual Maltese Falcon itself! The card has a vertical crease on the left side, pinholes in the corners, minor toning, and staining in the border areas which do not detract from the image. There are some pieces of paper tape on the verso. Fine+.
