Description
The Maltese Falcon (Warner Brothers, 1941). Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style A.As one of only a few known to exist, this style A half sheet from The Maltese Falcon has not been presented by Heritage in nearly fifteen years. It's also significant in that it's from the film that marked the directorial debut of John Huston and that helped propel Humphrey Bogart towards legendary Hollywood status. Adapted from Dashiell Hammett's riveting novel, the picture is indisputably one of the finest film noirs of all time. This exceedingly rare style A half sheet, similar to the title card, features a life-size portrait of Bogart moodily clenching a smoking gun, while femme fatale Mary Astor looks on. The poster displays brilliantly after professional restoration to address enlarged pinholes in the top and bottom right corners, fold wear, tears and creasing in the bottom border, a tear in the left border that extends into Bogart's forehead, a tear from the top border to "Humphrey," a bend in the bottom left corner, and vertical creases near the center. The white areas have been airbrushed with very pleasing results. Fine+ on Paper.
