Description

The Letter (Warner Brothers, 1940). Three Sheet (41.5" X 79").
This brilliant adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's play, itself based on a true story, finds Bette Davis entangled in her own web of lies and deceit. Davis, the wife of a wealthy plantation owner in Malaya, murders her married lover out of jealousy and attempts to hide the truth. The film was made previously starring Jeanne Eagles in 1929. Superior to the one sheet is this magnificent poster, showcasing a full-length image of Davis with the murder weapon in her hand. One half an inch has been added to the borders, which have been airbrushed. Professional restoration has addressed pinholes in the corners, and a tear in the white background in the lower section. Touchup work has been done to the folds. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
