The Big Sleep (Warner Brothers, 1946). French Grande (47" X 62.5") Portrait Style.
Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall look made for each other on this white hot French grande inspired by the classic Howard Hawks mystery/thriller based on Raymond Chandler's first novel. Bogart is introduced to audiences as the gruff, unfeeling private eye Philip Marlowe. This is the second film featuring Bogart and Bacall, solidifying the duo as one of the best in the business. This is only the second time Heritage has offered the portrait style French grande with artwork compliments of artist Rocher Vacher. While the Italian posters for this film are quite impressive, this French style and format could take top honors for its design and color. Collectors will appreciate that only touchup to the folds was needed, an added bonus to an already highly significant find. Very Fine on Linen.
