The Big Sleep (Warner Bros., 1947). Very Fine+ on Linen. French Grande (47" X 62.5") Rocher Vacher Artwork.
Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall absolutely sizzle with as much chemistry on this poster as they did in their movies, and it's no wonder why. In what is undoubtedly his best movie poster, artist Rocher Vacher had a lot to work with when it came to the married Bogart and Bacall, known as one of Hollywood's most iconic couples both off and on screen. In fact, the spark between the two was so great that director Howard Hawks had noir novelist Raymond Chandler rewrite all of Bacall's scenes to further show off the couple's natural synergy. It was a brilliant move that created a classic noir picture and made a superstar out of Bacall. Not offered at Heritage for several years, this stone litho French grande has had light touchup to the folds, a few pinholes, and very minor tears. There are a few soft post-backing creases, but this has very little effect on the poster's excellent overall presentation.
