    Description

    Sunset Boulevard (Paramount, 1950). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
In the 1940's, director Billy Wilder made the trek almost daily up and down the 22 mile stretch of road that runs through Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, and Brentwood. As he viewed the grand old homes of by-gone stars from Hollywood's Golden Age, he wondered how they spent their days and of the dramas of real life that had replaced their careers. He would create from those thoughts one of the darkest but most fascinating glimpses of the film world ever photographed. This complete set of lobby cards gives tantalizing hints at the noir-like tone of the film and the almost palpable desperation of the characters. Even the title, done in a street sign font, is terrifically framed by the symbolic twisted celluloid. Several cards show unobtrusive smudging and stains in the borders, mild creases, and a couple of cards have minor tears. One card has staining at the bottom that goes into the credits, and another card has a couple of dust shadows and some creasing. There are two cards with surface scratches in the background. Three cards have staple holes in the upper background, which have been touched up in two of the cards. Fine/Very Fine.
