Description
Sunset Boulevard (Paramount, 1950). Insert (14" X 36") and Lobby Cards (4)(11" X 14").A searing satire of the vain and shallow nature of life in Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard earned eleven Academy Awards and won three. Deftly directed by Billy Wilder, the picture stars William Holden as an unsuccessful screenwriter, and Gloria Swanson as Norman Desmond, a washed-up silent movie star. Swanson herself was beyond her prime when she accepted the role of Desmond, and she delivered an unforgettable performance as an aging starlet desperate to make a cinematic comeback. Holden becomes her "kept" man, paying the ultimate price for success. Always popular with collectors, the insert offered here features Swanson at her maniacal best, outraged by the pending doom of her career and long gone youthfulness. The poster has been lightly restored to address a tear in the left border and bottom right corner, fold wear, missing paper and tears in the top section, and a missing corner. Four lobby cards with great scenes are also included, and show tape on the verso, creasing, tape stains in the title, a missing corner, smudges in the credits, light stains, and small tears. Despite these minor signs of handling, the pieces look fantastic and display quite nicely! Folded, Fine-.
