This poster doesn't come around much anymore due to the extremely high demand for it and the reluctance of owners to sell it. The pinnacle of the film noir genre, director Jacques Tourneur's Out of the Past stars Robert Mitchum as "Jeff Bailey," an ex-private eye attempting to start a new life in a small town. A chance meeting leads a figure from his sordid past straight to his door, forcing him back into the world of brutality and betrayal he sought to escape. Jane Greer is incandescent as quintessential femme fatale "Kathie Moffet," and Kirk Douglas smolders with quiet menace in only his second big screen role. As renowned for its visual style as the iconic performances of its cast, mainstay RKO Pictures cinematographer Nicholas Musuraca provided the film's gritty, high-contrast lighting design, which is perfectly reflected in the poster artwork by William Rose. Backed on linen, the poster displays beautifully after sensitive restoration to minor edge and fold wear, a few very tiny border chips and pinholes. Additional touchup was applied to the star credits above the titles and sensitive airbrushing to the borders. The original colors remains bold and vibrant.
