    Description

Murder, My Sweet (RKO, 1944). Three Sheet (41" X 78.5").
Dick Powell plays Phillip Marlowe, the hardened private detective made famous amongst mystery fans in Raymond Chandler's thrilling novel series. Known mainly as a "song and dance man" after starring in several Warner Brothers musicals, Powell's career was in serious decline when director Edward Dmytryk took a chance and cast him as Chandler's popular antihero. Of course, the studio wasn't so sure that was such a good idea. In fact, they even renamed the movie from its original title, Farewell My Lovely, because they were afraid the public might think it was another Powell musical. Despite the studio's misgivings, what Dmytryk and Powell produced is now considered one of the great landmark movies of the early film noir genre. Not offered for a decade, Heritage is pleased to once again present this incredibly scarce three sheet, one of the few formats to feature a sultry image of a gun-toting, negligee-clad Claire Trevor. There has been partial restoration to fold wear, pinholes, and to tears and chips in the borders and folds. Some of these issues are still apparent. Unaddressed wear includes unobtrusive stains, a tear in the "E" of "Sweet," and specks of post-restoration paper loss at the bottom. The linen has been trimmed to the borders, with post-restoration edge wear and small tears that are separating slightly from the masa paper. Fine+ on Linen.
