    Description

Deadlier Than The Male (RKO, 1947). One Sheet (27" X 41"). Based on James Gunn's novel of the same name, "Deadlier Than The Male" was more widely released under the title "Born to Kill." Lawrence Tierney plays a cold-blooded killer who begins the story by committing a double murder in a jealous rage. When Claire Trevor discovers the bodies, she decides not to get involved and leaves town on a train to San Francisco. Tierney has taken the same train, and the two meet and fall in love, not knowing the sinister secrets that each harbors. There are two corner pinholes and some trivial fold line wear. What's interesting about this poster is that the studio blacked out the tag line at the top, "The Coldest Killer A Woman Ever Loved" and the original printed title, "Born To Kill." The title was of course replaced with, "Deadlier Than the Male," the studio's original choice. One might speculate that the studio was testing the titles on different markets to determine which would best promote Tierney, following his 1945 breakout role in the low-budget sleeper, "Dillinger." Very Fine+ on Linen.
